ways to lower electricity bill

what are some ways to lower my electricity bill?
My electricity bill is $230 and continues to rise. It was normally $30. I have 3 kids in a single story house and paying $230/ month for ridiculous. I get paid about $35/hr for 8 hours a day and with all the other things thta need money, family, insurance, taxes, cars, etc. I just need to know how to lower my electricity bill. I want it to be $200 and under and not $230 and rising. I have changed about 20 lightbulbs in my house from regular lihgtbulbs to CFL Light Bulbs which I think may help lower the electricity bill. I also tell my kids and I turn off the lights that we don’t use. We use the computer everyday and never laeve it on for more than a couple of hours a day. Any tips or ideas to lower my electricity bill? I know that the fridge takes up most of the electricty bill. I just need money for other things like paying the mortgage. Please help me and give me iedas on how to lower my electricity bill. Thanks.
*It was normally $200 and below electricity bill. Not $30, I wish.
With rising oil/fuel costs your bill will be higher because the cost of producing the electric has gone up. That said there are thing that will help a little.
1. lower your thermostate in the winter so the house is cooler…the furnace will run less often
2. raise the temp in the summer…. the AC will run less often
3. put things like tv’s on a strip and turn the strip off when not in use because many new tv’s are always using electric (check the owers manual first to make sure you won’t have to reprogram )
4. add insulation in the attic (and walls if possible)
5. lower the temp on the water heater slightly
6. use heavy drapes at the windows to keep the temp inside more constant and keep the outside temp out
7. turn the computer etc. “off” when not in use rather than “standby” which uses energy
8. if you have a coffee maker ….make the coffee, drink it and turn the machine “off” so it doesn’t keep the coffee warm for an hour or so longer
9. turn off lights not in use of course
10. use motion sensor outdoor lights rather than a timer that keeps outdoor lights on for long periods of time (have to watch motion sensor floodlights though)
